A Wedding with Emergency Cover / Sophie & Ben
What happens if your videographer can’t make it on your wedding day?
Short answer: see the film below, phew!
Long answer… it’s a worst-case scenario, one that no wedding supplier or couple wants to find themselves in. But if this blog post exists then something had to go tits up, right?
I had a family bereavement, and the funeral was scheduled for the same date as Sophie and Ben’s wedding.
With this situation, we had some time to get things organised. With nearly 7 years and counting of wedding experience, I’ve got a few industry pals who I can turn to, so I was able to arrange for Glen from Red Wren Studios to cover the day for me, and I would still handle the editing process after. I sent him the scheduling info, and put him and my couple in touch so everyone was on the same page while I was out of action. I was in a bit of a state of shock, so having someone I knew I could rely on was invaluable. I was so thankful to Sophie and Ben for being so understanding too.
Glen and I have similar styles of shooting, so I knew my editing style would fit with what he was capturing on the day. After the wedding, Glen talked me through the day. Wedding videography is more than just pressing record and having some pretty clips to string together. It’s about weaving together all the best moments to tell the stories. One example is Ben’s tie. There may have been a memory mishap when packing the bags… and dad had to head back to pick it up, dashing back to Wyresdale Park just before the ceremony. I often say ‘the little things are the big things’ and this is an example. One of those stories where in five, ten, twenty years time; do you remember when you, do you remember when I? I’m always looking for the little moments that make people say ‘that’s so you’, or ‘that’s so us’ or ‘classic dad, saving the day!’
And then I got stuck into editing! I was gutted not to be there myself. So sweet, so full of love, so emotional! Two absolute sweethearts, having the time of their lives.
Wyresdale Park is a great venue for weddings too, I love the barns and the lake. I really hope that I get another opportunity to go back soon!
And here we are. Community over competition, and I think we knocked this out of the park.
