A Celebrant-Led Garden Wedding / Natalia and Toby
How do you know if a celebrant wedding ceremony is right for you? Getting married, the legally binding contract of marriage, can be quite a serious business. You get given the words to say, and you have to say them at the right time. If you make a mistake, you might be asked to say them again. There are rules on the readings you can have, and restrictions on certain religious elements or cultural traditions you can include. You can only get married in certain designated licensed places.
If that sounds a little bit impersonal or restrictive, then a celebrant-led ceremony might be for you. At the time of writing this blog, a wedding ceremony conducted by a celebrant isn’t legally binding, so to be legally married you’d still need to say those mandated words. But if you can do that part days before or heck, even after, then a celebrant-led wedding ceremony might be for you, like it was for Natalia and Toby.
Natalia and Toby’s celebrant was a family friend, Sarah. And she was fabulous! Full of warmth, a life-affirming energy, and so ready to celebrate the love between both the bride and groom, and their families.
Their wedding ceremony was held in the garden, starting with a recording of Natalia reading a letter to her husband-to-be, and several readings from their nearest and dearest. They incorporated traditions such as lighting unity candles, symbolising two families coming together. They performed a hand-fasting ritual, and began their walk back down the aisle with a jump over the broom, held at the ends by the oldest and the youngest guests. I loved these additions to their ceremony; it was personal, paid homage to their heritage, and was exactly what they wanted.
Their personal and emotional ceremony set the tone for the reception and evening party too - high energy, good vibes, and everyone getting stuck in.
