Personalised Vows at Colwick Hall / Rebecca and Kieran
If you’re thinking “should I write my own wedding vows?” let me throw in my two cents and say: yes, if you want to.
Let Rebecca and Kieran show you how it’s done. They didn’t shy away from getting emotional, they embraced their story and their ‘whys’. They spoke from the heart, were truly honest, and spoke of their past, present, and future together. The promises they made were real and for each other, and there weren’t many dry eyes left in the hall.
From a wedding videography standpoint, personalised vows can give a strong, distinct and unique backbone to a highlight film. I’m here to find the narratives of my couples, and personalised vows can cut to the heart of their love story.
But if you don’t want to? Don’t! It’s got to be nerve-wracking, standing in front of your family and friends saying aloud “this is my person, and here’s why.” Maybe you think the sweet things you say to each other in private belong there. Maybe that’s not how you roll as a couple and the love you share is shown through actions, not words.
I believe the words you say on your wedding day are meaningful because you’ve said them. Looking into the eyes of your beloved and saying “I do” isn’t less important because someone else has said it first.
Rebecca and Kieran got married in Colwick Hall, in Nottingham. While October might seem like a brave choice for a UK wedding, we were blessed with sunny warm weather and a soft autumn light - perfection.
Both the bride and groom got ready at the venue, meaning I could nip back and forth to capture them both, before heading down to the main hall for their ceremony. Their autumnal styling featured dried flowers and a deep burgundy red, giving a seasonal twist to the already stunning space.
After a great confetti line, a drinks reception in the garden, and group photos in the waning sun, we took a stroll around the gardens for couple portraits. I loved the leafy tunnel, perfect for a dip-kiss, and of course that show-stopping fountain.
After their personal vows, I knew that the speeches were going to be great. And I wasn’t disappointed. To love and be loved like this? That’s rich rich.
